Henrietta Roush Scott

| Henrietta Roush Scott lives on a picturesque ridge in southern Adair County, Kentucky surrounded by an apple orchard, deep hollows and clear springs. It is from these elements of nature that she takes much of her inspiration for her watercolors, oil pastels and Raku pottery. The varied and rugged landscape lends itself to subtle interpretations. "In my work I feel a strong sense of place, time and person. My artistic strength comes from the spirit of that which surrounds me. From the hills and valleys, small branches, flowing water and soaring trees, I gather the inspiration to paint, draw and create my pieces. "As this environment evolves and is transformed, I try to mimic these changes in my technique. Experimenting with different medium and combinations of media has given me freedom and latitude of style." Drawing from this richness of place and people, Scott was also able to nurture and develop an appreciation of the arts in numerous students during her 30-year teaching career. |
